Sri Lanka in 8 days: tea country, temples and beaches
A compact island that packs ancient cities, hill-country trains and southern beaches into a single unhurried week.
A compact island that packs ancient cities, hill-country trains and southern beaches into a single unhurried week.
Sri Lanka is a whole subcontinent in miniature — ruins, wildlife, misty tea hills and palm-lined beaches, all a short flight from India and easy to string together in eight days.
Base near Sigiriya and climb the Lion Rock at dawn, then explore the cave temples of Dambulla and the ruined city of Polonnaruwa. This is the island’s ancient heart.
Move to Kandy for the Temple of the Tooth, then take the famous train to Ella — one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world, winding through tea plantations and waterfalls.
Book the Kandy–Ella train early and sit on the right-hand side for the views. It sells out days ahead.
Drop to Yala or Udawalawe for a jeep safari — leopards, elephants and a genuinely wild landscape. It’s the surprise highlight for most first-timers.
Finish on the southern beaches — Mirissa for whales, Galle for its Dutch fort, or Unawatuna to simply do nothing. A gentle end to a busy week.
We can slow this to ten days or add more beach time — just tell us your pace.
